Hints for Slide ERG 7.

This specimen may be difficult or easy, depending on how quickly you recognize the key features.

What kind of tissue comprises the bulk of this specimen?  Do not answer hastily, and return to this point in case you are mistaken.

Examine (carefully!) the entire circumference of this specimen.

Which surfaces are cut, and which (if any) are natural?

  • What kinds of tissue comprise the uncut surfaces of this specimen?  Does this look like a mucosa?  If so, of what organ?
  • Consider the various internal surfaces of the body -- mucosal (lined by epithelium), serosal (lined by mesothelium), intimal (lined by endothelium), other (CNS ventricles, joint capsules, etc.)  Which does this most resemble?

Now return to the bulk of the specimen and reconsider its appearance.

Hints on the next page are quite revealing.  Don't look unless you are stuck, or are ready for some confirmation.

More hints.
