Endocrine System Histology
Objectives

Endocrine System Histology, Core Objective:  By the end of the unit, most of the terms in these pages should be part of your working vocabulary (i.e., you should no longer need a dictionary or atlas to define the terms or to identify the associated structures).  Specific objectives include the basic tissue composition, function, and appearance in each endocrine gland, including specialized cell types.

Specific Objectives

Understand the basic tissue structure for the following endocrine glands.

  • follicular cells
  • parafollicular / C cells
  • chief cells
  • oxyphil cell
  • alpha cells
  • beta cells
  • delta cells
  • PP cell
