This specimen is slightly abnormal, with patches of inflammatory
infiltrate scattered throughout. Nevertheless, its identity
should be obvious once you recognize the major features.
Note that this is a solid organ (as opposed to a hollow or tubular
one). The specimen displays cut edges all around.
Note that the entire parenchyma consists of cuboidal cells with eosinophilic
cytoplasm and round, centrally located nuclei, with no conspicuous layers,
regional distinctions, or subdivisions
Scattered throughout the specimen are:
- Patches of stroma, mostly with inflammatory infiltrate.
- Vessels without supporting stroma.
