Glomerulosclerosis

This image shows two renal corpuscles from a patient with glomerulosclerosis (i.e., "hardening", or sclerosis, of glomeruli).  The corpuscle at left is entirely sclerotic, with occlusion of capillary lumens and of Bowman's space.  The corpuscle at right still appears functional, with blood in glomerular capillaries and with patent Bowman's space

Click on the thumbnail at left for a lower-magnification view of this region, including inflammation and degeneration of cortical tubules.

Click on the thumbnail at right for a view of normal renal cortex.
