The source for this specimen should be obvious (and confidently so), provided you are familiar with the organ it represents.
- Note that the entire specimen consists of acidophilic fibrous material.
- Find regions where the fibers have been cut in cross section.
- Find other regions where the fibers have been cut in longitudinal section.
- What tissue elements give the appearance of acidophilic fibers?
- What special features distinguish these different fibrous tissue elements?
- Which of these comprises most of this specimen?
- Note the four sides of this specimen (numbers 1, 2, 3, 4).
- Which of these represent cut surfaces (where surgical removal occurred)?
- Which of these are natural surfaces?
- Which represents the outside surface of the organ? (How can you tell?)
- Which represents the inside surface of the organ? (How can you tell?)
