Longitudinal-section of cardiac muscle can reveal the branching nature of cardiac muscle fibers. 
Intercalated disks are unstained (pale) in this H&E-stained specimen. 
(Muscle striations should be visible at this magnification, but in this digital image they are obscured by pixellation.)
