Yellow color highlights the concentric lamellae which comprise each osteon. At the center of each osteon is a Haversian canal.
In between complete osteons are regions of bone in which lamellae do not form complete concentric systems. These interstitial lamellae are remnants of former osteons that have been partially removed and replaced during remodelling.
