Chronic inflammation of intestine

Notes

Except in the appendix and in Peyer's patches of the ileum, accumulations of lymphoid tissue are normally infrequent in the intestine.  However, chronic inflammation, as in inflammatory bowel disease, can lead to heavy lymphocyte infiltration and formation of lymph nodules throughout the mucosa.
