Notes

This section cut obliquely through a wrinkle (ruga) of the gastic mucosa, clearly illustrates the variation in epithelial cell composition, from surface mucous cells comprising the surface of the pits, to predominantly parietal cells (pale acidophilic stain) in the middle region of gastric glands, to predominantly chief cells (more intensely basophilic stain) deep in the mucosa.
