Junction between Stomach and Duodenum

Notes

Click in any rectangle to magnify.

This slide shows the transition between the stomach (on the right) and the small intestine (on the left).

Note how the mucosal surface changes from pits (on the right) to villi (on the left), and how mucosal glands (on the right) give way to submucosal glands (on the left).

The epithelial transition, from gastric surface mucous epithelium to intestinal absorptive epithelium with goblet cells, may be be seen by clicking here or on the small rectangle in upper center.

Also note large blood vessels in the submucosa.
